Also known as 'Aussie plum' or Ooray, this very attractive shrub is an Australian native. It has long serrated leaves and attractive reddish new growth. The plum-sized dark purple fruit is too sour to eat fresh, but makes a wonderful colourful addition to stewed apples, or is delicious bottled or stewed on its own. It is great for chutneys as well, but would be worth growing as a specimen even if it didn't fruit. Plant in some shade and feed and water well.
