We have several varieties of ginger available. All will grow outdoors in a frost-free spot, and although they will all spread they are not rampantly invasive. GALANGAL - Widely used in Thai cooking, galangal is an aromatic rhizome that grows on a clumping plant similar to a number of ornamental gingers.Plant in semi shade in well drained soil after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up. If you plant them too early, the cold, moist soil may cause them to rot. Plant them in a ridge and harvest the roots in autumn. You can leave some in the ground to sprout again, but if you have frost, it is best to bring them indoors for winter.
