Also known as black sapote, this is a member of the persimmon family. The trees are medium sized, with glossy green foliage and the fruit is green skinned, even when ripe, with chocolate coloured flesh. They are frost intolerant and require a good hot summer to develop flavour. It is recommended to plant 2 trees to develop good fruit size, though I have seen a lone one fruiting well. Do not over fertilise as this causes burn. Use a mild foliar drench.
As we have very Limited stock of these interesting & unusual subtropical plants they will be sold via auction on Trade Me when they are ready to go.
