This is a handsome medium sized tree that can be grown as a shrub. It bears small dark red fruit with an excellent sweet cherry flavour, and continues fruiting for 5 months. The plants are grown from seed gathered from a fruiting tree in Auckland and should start bearing after 4 years.
They like year-round water, and can be grown in sun or in shade.
They will survive temperatures as low as -3C but do not like conditions that remain cool for long.
Also known as grumichama, and previously known as Eugenia Dombeyi.
