Dwarf Red Lady is one of the most cold torrerant verieties of tropical papaya making it ideal for growing in NZ. It produces high yields of large fruit with sweet, juicy flesh.

These can be grown outside in the warmer parts of NZ however they need to be planted intentionally and with care. Plant in free-draining, compost rich soil, in a very sheltered position. Ideal spots include against water tanks, next to a block/brick wall, under soffit of house. They can also be grown in pots and bought in for the winter. It is essential that these plants are in a warm, sunny spot, free draining soil and protected from wind and cold. They are very frost sensitive so will need to be protected from frost.

These are perfect if you have a green house (North Island)
