A semi-deciduous tree, 5-15 m tall with a smooth and peeling bark; trunk 30-50 cm in diameter. It produces sweet, slightly acidic fruits very high in vitamin C after 2-4 years. The fruit can be eaten fresh or use to flavour drinks or ice cream.
It prefers free draining soil and full sun. Midly frost tolerant when established.
Uvalha is a native of Atlantic rain forests of Brazil between elevations of 300 to 1500 m.. It is also cultivated on a small scale there. However, this fruit has not reached outside Brazil yet and is virtually unknown.
A really unusual addition to your subtropical orchard or garden.
