Calina Dwarf Papaya is a tropical papaya producing large (up to 2.5kg), sweet tasting fruit. Growing up to 1.5m, they are suited for growing in large containers or in the ground (we recommend inside a green house)

These can be grown outside in the warmer parts of NZ however they need to be planted intentionally and with care. Plant in free-draining, compost rich soil, in a very sheltered position. Ideal spots include against water tanks, next to a block/brick wall, under soffit of house. They can also be grown in pots and bought in for the winter. It is essential that these plants are in a warm, sunny spot, free draining soil and protected from wind and cold. They are very frost sensitive so will need to be protected from frost.

These are perfect if you have a green house (North Island)

Sowing instructions:

- Soak seeds in warm water for 24hrs

- Sow into well draining seed mix in trays or pots. You can also sow directly into the soil (if in a green house)

- Maintain a warm temperature around 24 degrees, keeping the soil moist but not wet

- Germinating takes around 2 - 3 weeks.

- Pick the strongest seedlings and transplant them to large pots or into the ground, taking care not to damage any of the roots.
